Swimming

Our Coaches

We are the only club in Bristol to offer four Swim England Level 3 coaches within our team, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to every squad and swimmer.

Our level 3 coaches lead a committed group of volunteer teachers and coaches made up from our Masters squad, parents, and the wider swimming community.  Several of our volunteer coaches have achieved their qualifications through the club and we continue to invest in their training within and outside of the club to build experience and, in turn, help our swimmers improve performance.

Director of Swimming

Our Director of Swimming, Malcolm Casey has coached swimmers to reach the podium at National level on 22 occasions. He is one of the County’s most experienced and respected coaches and has been involved with Bristol North for many years.

Malcolm saw early on the value of having a well run and well organised Club so that the coaching team could give the best to their swimmers.

Head Coach

Our Head Coach, Petrina Casey, is a highly qualified coach who has extensive teaching and coaching experience.

She has taught swimming at Filton Sports Centre and Splash Happy Swim School, and was a lead coach at Severnside Tritons Swimming Club for many years, progressing to Deputy Head Coach at Southwold Swimming Club before we were lucky to have her lead our coaching team.

Our Swimming

Our club is a SwimMark club.  Formerly called Swim21, SwimMark accreditation is Swim England’s quality standard for clubs. It recognises high standards of governance, sustainability and effectiveness.  We prioritise the welfare of all its members and its SwimMark accreditation is a testament to our high standards of safeguarding.

After progressing through our Learn to Swim programme, or if you join us from a local Leisure Centre or other club, typically you will move into our Swim Development groups or competitive squads. If you are over the age of 18, then you can join our Masters Squad.  Learn more below.

Swim Development
Swimmers enter our Swim Development sessions when they are water confident and have the basics of key strokes.

Swimmers enter into Swim Development 3 typically when they are 5 or 6, progressing through to Swim Development 1 when they typically reach between 7 and 9 years.  When in Swim Development, we start to focus on technique, ensuring swimmers have mastered the basics in all four strokes and turns before they progress to our competitive squads.

We hold our lessons at Filton Leisure Centre on Sunday afternoons. See below for our full timetable and get in touch for our prices.

We swim in six pools, both short course (25m) and long course (50m).  For full details, see our current timetable.
